Nursery Plant Tracking System

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the Nursery Plant Tracking System run on Vista?

A: Yes.  However, you need to launch the InterBase portion of Nursery Plant Tracking System as an application instead of a service.  The instructions are included in the documentation that comes with the CD.  In the event you downloaded a demonstration here is the excerpt from the instructions:

Build a shortcut on your desktop to start InterBase manually once before running NPTS.  If Interbase is already running you will not need to start it again.
  • The folder “c:\Program Files\Interbase Corp\Interbase\Bin” on you computer contains a file named “Ibserver.exe”.
  • Using a file explorer view, right click on the file and choose the “Send To” item.
  • Choose the “Desktop (create shortcut)” item.
  • Double click this new desktop icon once prior to launching NPTS.

Note:  If you copy the shortcut to the “All Programs, Startup” area, you will not need to launch the Ibserver program manually, it will start whenever you startup Vista automatically.

Q: Does NPTS run on other operating systems?...

A: Yes.  It actually runs on all Microsoft Windows operating systems all the way back to Win95.  We don't encourage that however, since those OS's are no longer supported by Microsoft.  Nursery Plant Tracking System does not run on Apple or Linux operating systems.

Q: I would like a change to NPTS.   What should I do?...

A: Contact us.   We can discuss with you the depth of your request.   If the change must be made deep within the bowels of NPTS, it will probably wait until the next major version upgrade.   If the change is just cosmetic or simply adding another report, it should just take a couple of weeks to implement.

Once the testing and release packaging is complete for the request, we will notify the requestor and post the new version on the download update page for them and all other NPTS customers to use.

Our primary objective in facilitating any request, is that the requested change benefit all of the other NPTS customers as well.   If it is a specific request that will really only benefit one grower, then it is much harder to justify changing NPTS just to meet one customer's need.

If you notice a defect in the software, we will make that our top priority to fix and get an update out as soon as possible.

Q: Does?...
